Il Seminario Internazionale “Human Experience, AI Technology, and the Future of Education: In an Era of Geopolitical Disorder”, organizzato nell’ambito del Master in Didattica e IA (a.a. 2024-2025) dell’Università della Calabria, si terrà il 9 e il 10 giugno 2025 presso l’Aula Multimediale – Cubo 20 B II piano Ponte Bucci Arcavacata di Rende.
Le ragioni dell’iniziativa: In an age of accelerating artificial intelligence (or rather machine learning as driven by LLMs) development and intensifying geopolitical disorder, democratic societies face unprecedented challenges to public reasoning, civic engagement, and social cohesion. This is compounded by tech elites aggressively pushing for authoritarian control of governments and of public discourse. This seminar brings together leading Deweyan scholars to explore how John Dewey’s philosophy of democracy and education – rooted in participatory inquiry, social intelligence, and adaptive learning – can provide a critical framework for understanding and addressing these disruptions. The seminar will investigate how AI, as the defining technological novelty of our era, reshapes education, the public sphere, influences political institutions, and challenges the epistemic conditions of democracy. In particular, we will examine: the role of AI in transforming education; the role of AI in transforming democratic communication and deliberation; the potential of Deweyan pragmatism to guide the ethical and educational responses to AI’s impact; the ways in which AI-driven geopolitical tensions reshape democratic participation and agency; strategies for fostering resilient, intelligent publics in the face of algorithmic governance and misinformation. This interdisciplinary seminar will be hybrid, offering both in-person and virtual participation to engage a global network of scholars, policymakers, technologists, and civic leaders. We will critically engage with Deweyan ideas to forge pathways for democratic adaptation and renewal in the face of AI-driven transformations. The speakers will give the lectures in English or in Italian. There will be a system of simultaneous translation.
